Email a Prisoner - the hassle free way to keep in touch.

I live in Guernsey and due to the distance and expence was unable to visit my brother in prison. Email a prisoner is quick and easy and has been a god send. It has helped both me and my brother through an extremely tough time by eradicating distance. It has made me feel less helpless and given my brother something to look forward to aswell providing him with comfort and support from loved ones. I even used it frequently while on holiday in New Zealand. It works, spread the word. Fantastic!!!

This is a hearty thank you for the services you are offering to incarcerated persons at the various correctional institution, we are a family that are extremely grateful for this service whereby we can email our loved one daily ( and trust me we are doing just that) we are a poor family from Trinidad in the west indies and have a family member serving time at the wormwood scrubs, and we feel almost next to him by knowing that he can hear from us everyday for such a minimal cost, because of the comfort this system brings to all of us, even after he is release we intend to keep an account so he can continue to communicate with friends he would have made there. We live in a country where such a service is not available so we Intend to lobby the powers that be to institute such a service, because it can do a lot to reform persons. we also intend to keep in touch with your company and will welcome the day when a prisoner can also send an email, so god bless from Trinidad and Tobago.

I just wanted to say thank you again for the service you provide, my son was released on thursday so no more e-mails! yaay, your service made sure that for the two years he was in prison both myself and his brothers and sister have been able to include him in our day to day life, when he was released he was relaxed and happy and was up to date with all the family stuff that i would probably have been forgotten to put in letters. The difference it made just being able to send off an e-mail if something silly happened was huge and kept his morale up and although we obviously missed actually being able to see him, his brothers and sis have found it a lot easier to cope with because they knew they could send him an e-mail and he would be reading it the next day.

So please keep on doing what you do, and many thanks from myself and my family, i dont know what we would have done without you.

I just wanted to say congratulations on providing such an excellent facility for in-mates. It is so user friendly and granny-proof - it is a fantastic service for families and friends of people on remand or serving sentence. I was explaining to my brother that I had written a very long letter (over a period of days) but had not had time to go to the village (5 miles away) to post the letter and get stamps etc. I said it annoys me that you aren't allowed emails etc and he astounded me by reeling off the website address (easy for all to remember). I had expected the whole process to long, full of red tape and expensive and its exactly the opposite. At 30p a pop you can be as jokey and whimsical as you like so the contact is a really relaxed and 'normal' conversation rather than a series of questions, statements and facts.

Unfortunately, I only got to use "email a prisoner" for a short time before my family member was moved to a prison that does not use this service. But for the short time I did get to use it I found it great. It's a shame that more friends and family members of prisoners don't know about it and a shame that not all prisons use this system. She's got mental health problems and was/is very scared and worried. I really want Email a Prisoner to be activated into HMP Ford. My partner has just been moved there from Winchester and he will be there for the next 7 months. Even though I write to him by post, it is so much easier for me to keep in touch by email. I am running a business from home for us both so am on the computer all day every day and is the perfect way for me to keep in touch with him daily. It is extremely important to me and us both to have this regular contact (as I'm sure it is for every relative in this situation) but even more so for us as we are expecting our first baby in December. My son has recently been sent to "MOORLANDS CLOSED" prison in Doncaster. This is disastrous for me. Although I have been to visit my son several times, as I am partially disabled and can spend days (sometimes weeks) stuck inside my home on my own. I have previously been using "emailaprisoner", emailing my son between 4 and 7 times a week and he, in return, phones me.
Over the past several months we have become much closer and have been able to talk about his crimes and talk about how to get out of the circle of crime he has been involved in.

I know most people will say that I should just post a letter to my son. If I was in better health I would. As it is, my nearest Post Office is 2 1/2 miles away. There is no bus to get there (although there is one on the way back). I cant always afford a taxi and I do not drive.

I feel that I have been totally cut off from my son again. Writing letters and sending them a bunch at a time is not the same and does not have the same effect. A Grant

My husband has just been transfered to usk prison an i have now discovered that usk prison isnt under the email a prisoner scheme. As a now single mum with her husband being in prison i am wondering how you intend to go about getting usk prison into this scheme. I myself will find it a great ease to myself to be able to send an email to my husband in prison for them 2 print out as over the winter months i might not be able to go near a post box as often as my husband would like to send him mail. My son has just been transferred from Reading HMP and YOI to Aylesbury. As you are probably already aware they do not currently have your system in place. Is this because they refused or have they not been approached regarding the use of this excellent service.

We have found your email service a real help in keeping in regular contact with our son. It is ideal for daily contact and passing on what's happening with family and friends etc. I feel it really gives our son a lift to receive his daily email from his mother and myself.

I know you cannot do more than use the weight of public opinion to try and sway the prison authorities, but they must see that this is a added way of ensuring that while these young men serve their sentences, they do not end up feeling 'cut off' and forgotten. Anon

I have found this service of yours a great way to keep in contact with my son who was in Rochester Prison. I'm living in the Rep of Ireland and i found with the e-mail service i was keeping contact with my son on a more regular basis..now that he has been moved to Onley in Rugby they dont have this service..and i miss it..now im bk to the postal service which can take days for my letters to arrive. Please could it be possible to email prisoners in every prison in Britain. I know of many people who have been able to receive letters using this service and we as a group are enabling our friends to write to those friends we know who are in prison.

It is sometimes very difficult for people to write a letter and get it to the post when an email can be sent so easily. We as a group chiop in a little into a central fund so that others who might not have the cash can send an email. please allow this system to be set up in all prisons. Reverend Claire

I was so angry and up-set to find that HMP Blackenhurst has not got 'emailaprisoner'. I live so far away from this prison so i am unble to visit. The only way i can stay in contact with my fiance is by writing now, he was at a prison where i could email him so he would know i was alright.

My fiance and i have been going through a very hard time this year, we both feel the need to have to talk to each other all the time. As we cant have that, i need 'emailaprison' s much. My fiance loves me very muchm and is all i have in the world. He needs to know that i'm ok, the only way i can do that is by writing. So i badly need 'emailaprisoner' to be at HMP Blackenhurst.

Since i first started using 'emailaprisoner', it has been a lifesaver. My fiance is very depressed at the moment, so i have been using 'emailaprisoner' to make sure he knows i'm ok, i still love him, will never leave him and he is NOT a waste of space like he thinks. Sarah

Thank you so much for emailaprisoner - it is a life-saver. I'm helping a friend, who has a brain injury, and struggles to understand what is happening in his case. Last weekend, I was able to send him 7 emails explaining what was going on, and this helped him calm down and relax. It beats posting letters, not just for the convenience and cost, but creates a feeling of being "in-touch" at the click of a button.I wish the prisons would print your email address on all visiting orders and put up posters/leaflet displays in the visitors centres. I have been prison visiting for 10 years and only found out about the service a few months ago. I believe emailaprisoner helps the administration of justice, the well-being of prisoners and their loved ones/friends. If only you could sort out the hell of booking a visit.
